Monthly Newsletter for OES Families

Message from the Principal

Dear OES Families,

We hope you’re enjoying a safe and relaxing summer! As we prepare for the 2025–2026 school year, we’re excited to welcome both returning and new Rocket families to Ockerman Elementary.

This is our first edition of The Rocket Report—a monthly newsletter designed to help keep you informed and connected throughout the school year. Each issue will include updates on upcoming events, important reminders, student highlights, and more. We hope it becomes a helpful and encouraging resource for your family.

Whether it’s your first year joining us or your sixth, we’re so glad you’re part of the OES community. We can’t wait to blast off into a new school year with you!

Enjoy the rest of your summer!

ā˜€ļø Summer at Ockerman: We’re thrilled to host Boone County Parks’ summer camp again this year. It’s been a joy seeing our building full of energy and fun all summer long!

šŸš€ Me & My School Begins July 7: Our Kindergarten Readiness program kicks off July 7 and runs through the end of the month. We’re excited to welcome our incoming Rockets and help them prepare for a great school year!

šŸ¦ English Learner Open House – July 21: Families of English Learners are invited to the EL Open House at the Ralph Rush Center from 2–6 PM. Community partners will be available to help with school registration and provide free resources. The first 100 guests will receive free ice cream! Flyers are available on our website in multiple languages.

šŸ“£ We’re Hiring! Boone County Schools is still looking for bus drivers. If you are interested in becoming a bus driver see the BCS website or contact the transportation department.

šŸ–ļø Brigance Screener: Each school year all new Kindergarten students have to take a Brigance screener. This is done one on one with each of our Kindergarten students. To cut down on the amount of instruction time lost during the first two weeks of school in Kindergarten we are going to do them prior to the school year. If you have a child coming into Kindergarten please use this link: Brigance Screening Sign Up to sign up for a time to bring your child to Ockerman to complete this screener. It will take approximately 30 mins and they will be working with one of our fabulous Kindergarten teachers and other OES staff.

šŸ“… Mark Your Calendar:
– OES Open House: August 5, 4:15 - 6:30
– First Day of School: August 14

Reminders & Deadlines

šŸ’» Registration for 25/26 School Year opens Tuesday, July 1. Please complete as soon as possible to avoid delays. Click the following link for the Enrollment & Registration.

šŸ’² School Fees: $55 per student, will be assigned in Infinite Campus on Friday, August 1st.

šŸ“ Household & Income Form (HIF): Even though all OES students receive free lunch due to our Title I status, we strongly encourage families to submit the HIF form. Doing so may qualify your family for free or reduced school fees and helps our school remain eligible for the Community Eligibility Program (CEP).

šŸ“š School Supply Lists Are Now Posted! Click the following link for the 2025–2026 OES School Supply List. Feel free to get your supplies whenever it works best for your family before school starts. You’re welcome (and encouraged!) to drop off supplies at the front office before the first day of school, or bring them to Open House on August 5th to give directly to your child’s teacher. This helps keep those backpacks a little lighter on the first day!

šŸ“± Don’t Forget to Download the Boone County Schools App! Stay connected all year long with the Boone County Schools, KY app. You’ll receive updates from the district, our school, and even your child’s classroom—all in one place. Learn more and find download links here: Boone County Schools App Info.
